The term ‘cavity slider’ refers to the pocket frame, including the track and running gear, installed within the wall framing
CS Cavity Sliders were supplied for a recent multi-res project on Auckland’s North Shore. The 20 contemporary apartments enjoy commanding views over the Hauraki Gulf and adjacent Milford village.
The bathrooms feature full height matt finish marble look tiles on the walls. With all the weight from the tile-loading on the wall where the cavity sliders are situated, a little extra thought in the specification of the cavity sliders for these rooms was required. CS TimberFormed cavity sliders with setback jambs and SquareStop detail were chosen to ensure all the requirements were met and to continue the clean lines that feature throughout the rest of the space.
CS Cavity Sliders have been tested and are suitable for tiling onto. The correct installation procedure must be followed, and a suitable tile substrate should be fixed to the cavity pocket. The cavity wall needs to be correctly waterproofed, and the cavity frame, tiles and wall linings must all be installed as per the manufacturer’s instructions to be compliant.
For especially heavy tiles or if the cavity pocket is to form part of the shower enclosure it is recommended that the cavity pocket is manufactured with a 17mm H3.1 sheet of plywood in the frame. Double lining the cavity pocket with suitable wallboard and tile substrate will also provide additional protection.
Sliding doors are a practical space saving solution for bathrooms, ensuites and laundries. Using a cavity slider door in these areas ensures valuable space in multi-res developments is utilised to maximum benefit.
