Introduction

So you’ve decided to add cavity sliders to your interior design. Excellent choice! Now, it’s time to decide your door style. Not sure where to start? Here are some cavity slider door options to help determine the right cavity sliding door for your project.

Are cavity sliding doors different from hinged doors?

Yes and no. A cavity sliding door can be the same style as the hinged doors in your home, but it is recommended that solid core doors or doors with steel inserts are used for cavity sliders to provide more stability and decrease the likelihood of the door bowing.

What door types work with cavity sliders?

A wide range of options are possible, including moulded panels, glazed doors, or specialty timbers. Continue reading for our expert recommendations.

What are the standard door sizes in Australia?

Standard door sizes in Australia are 2040mm high and available in a range of widths, including 620, 720, 770, 820, 870, and 920mm.

What door types should you choose for a large cavity slider?

For a larger cavity slider, consider aluminium sliding doors. Aluminium sliding doors can be manufactured at much larger sizes; this helps avoid the problems that timber doors can have such as bowing or warping. A range of high-quality aluminium and glazed doors are available to suit cavity sliders.

What door leaves are available with cavity sliders?

So what door types are available directly with Cavity Sliders? Check out the following three options, which are supplied pre-finished, and ready for installation.

CS Cavity Sliders manufactures a range of high-quality aluminium and glazed doors to suit cavity sliders, hinged, or pivot doors. Learn more.

1. New Yorker

The New Yorker is a stylish pre-finished aluminium door that can be glazed using a wide range of materials – usually glass. The frame has no visible screws or fastenings and the horizontal or vertical rails have been purpose designed to maintain overall good looks without compromising strength or reliability.

Most standard mortice locks can be fitted to the front stile. We can even factory-fit the lock for you. A clip in front clashing sits neatly above and below the mortice face plate covering all visible fixings.

The CS NewYorker is 38mm thick and has been purpose designed to work in conjunction with our cavity sliding and pre-hung systems for a complete solution. It can also be used as a fixed panel in multi-track setups.

Why choose a NewYorker for your cavity slider?
The NewYorker door makes for an excellent feature door in living spaces that emphasise bold or industrial design cues. Use a matte black NewYorker with a matching handle, and channel the New York Loft aesthetic.

2. FramelessGlass

CS FramelessGlass doors are designed to create light-filled spaces and seamless flow between rooms. These doors have a sleek and minimalistic appearance with a top clamp bracket that can be exposed or hidden above the head jambs, depending on the desired look. Various glass options are available, including frosted, tinted, printed, or branded glass. It is important to use 10mm or 12mm safety glass for these doors.

Why choose a Frameless Glass for your cavity slider?

A Frameless Glass cavity slider comes into its own when used in a wet area such as a master ensuite. Frosted glass allows lots of natural light into the space, creating an inviting atmosphere while ensuring privacy. Add a pull handle that matches your tapware and create the perfect finishing touch.

3. Timber Doors

While CS Cavity Sliders does not manufacture timber Doors, we can order doors from suppliers or fit doors provided by customers to their cavities. Timber doors offer a wide range of styles, including moulded panels, grooved patterns, or specialty timbers. CS recommends using doors with steel inserts for increased stability and reduced risk of bowing, particularly for larger doors. For joining large doors, the ActaLink system can be used.
