Introduction

The Auckland City Mission is a charitable organisation that provides professional health and social services to marginalised Aucklanders. Established in 1920, the City Mission forms an important part of the city’s social fabric and a focal point for Auckland’s most vulnerable communities.

The redeveloped Mission HomeGround enables improved delivery of the Mission’s services, providing wrap-around services and support to 80 tenants housed in onsite accommodation. The new facilities include a Medical Centre and Pharmacy, various assessment rooms, public showers and toilets, a social and medical detox unit with 30 beds, and a large eating area for serving regular meals. It will also connect with the wider community by creating community activity rooms and commercial spaces for social enterprise opportunities.

CS Cavity Sliders worked closely with the architects and construction firm involved to provide a number of sliding door solutions for this award-winning project. At specification stage, our Architectural Rep provided advice for the best products to meet a range of doorway opening requirements including restricted access, sound reduction, accessibility and flexibility. When the original spec for an automated cavity slider became unfeasible due to budget constraints, a maglock semi-automated cavity slider was suggested as an alternative, still providing secure access without a fully automated unit. Throughout construction, a dedicated rep met with the construction company on site, checking measurements and keeping track of variations as details changed.
